What possible value could Cisco see in Boca? I could see a "circle the wagons" merger with another dying modem maker, hoping to benefit fom elimination of redundant overhead, R&D, etc.

The market has totally changed from a year ago. Modems are now a simple device for remote access to ISPs and corporate remote access servers and for faxing. Feature sets are unimportant. It's only a question of time before faxes take the same path. The big guys are going to compete fiercely, and will crush, or rather, have crushed the small players. The only benefit for a head end player to have client side is if they want to control both ends of the connection for proprietary purposes (such as x2); otherwise they are just a commodity manufacturer without leverage and without a future.

Dead money, IMO.
