Re: It seems obvious that if Intel stuck to the mp business almost exclusively that its revenue growth (with falling prices) and EPS would increase at about 8 per cent a year. . . . Without new rapidly growing businesses, such as Barrett is exploring (after Grove deneglected segment zero and the network) Intel is dead meat, and the stock would collapse.

Nihil --

Over what time frame do you see this happening? Why should anyone own Intel if the stock price is dependent on the success of new business ventures? IABG is the only profitable segment for Intel and the investments in the startups are drags on the bottom line. Do you think Intel can be #1 or #2 in many or any of the new business areas?

I was surprised by Barrett's cavalier, and seemingly derisive, attitude toward Intel's CPU business, especially considering the recent execution problems. For Intel to continue to succeed, he must defend the CPU castle before venturing off to take new territory.

Regards,

John
