JRI, RE: Looks like the only one advising selling EMC is you!

Actually, I am, if you'll recall.

Merrill released a research report this morning that does an excellent job of listing EMC's competitive challenges going forward. Note that Merrill believes that EMC will innovate in this era and stay ahead of the pack.

The Merrill analyst (Milunovich) buys to an extent the Gilder premise that there is a current battle between NAS and SAN, with NTAP in the lead in NAS. Merrill's logic in keeping their 'buy' rating on EMC was that the worlds of SAN and NAS will converge as Symmetrix support for IP is introduced. In IP based storage, EMC believes SAN implementations will be proprietary. This could be perceived as a negative for EMC, but if this is the ONLY was that SAN over IP can happen, EMC will maintain its lead.

If somebody has a link (I can't link my Merrill research) this morning's article is well worth the reading.
