Broadband to grow more slowly than expected (Satellite International, 02-25-00) According to Merrill Lynch, broadband and internet services via satellite will reach $1.38 billion in 2000, down from the company's spring 1999 forecast of $2.24 billion. From 2003 on, revenues are expected to exceed the $2.24 billion mark. Merrill Lynch expects VSAT firms to transform into internet service providers in 2000, and DTH to become a broadband services portal in homes. Overall satellite internet penetration in the U.S. is expected to reach 2.3 million subscriberes by the end of 2003, and 10.2 million subscribers by the end of 2005.
