[ A little help on order ]

Jim,

Unless the ask ever went to 8.00, the market makers don't have to fill the limit order. And even that is not guaranteed, if the ask doesn't stay there long.

Each market maker posts a bid and ask and it is necessary for his market maker to monitor his order and execute it if another market maker drops the ask. They make money on the spread by buying at the bid and selling at the ask. Think of them as a retailer like the corner grocer. Sometimes you can bargain, sometimes you can't.

It is not an auction market where orders are sequenced like the NYSE.

John
