Slightly OT, John, I thought about what you said yesterday about companies added to the S and P 500 only when the become profitable on the bottom line. I don't think they consider operating earnings. I believe that is what is probably held back JDSU in addition to the low trailing revenue numbers.

The strange thing I have noticed is that they have not been making changes in the last couple of months. This is unusual considering the activity we saw in Nov and Dec. In addition, lots of changes are being made to other S and P indices.
I am just wondering if this means we will get a blockbuster announcement coming out of them. It is no secret that the S and P 500 index funds may be losing investment dollars. How do they keep this index as the benchmark. My guess is that there would have to be a lot of new additions of new tech stocks, whether they have bottom line earnings or not.

On the other hand, I don't think the S and P 500 addition is a big deal anymore. At this point I could care less about JDSU being added. If the S and P 500 is going the way of the cyclical stocks, then who cares. Strangely, that is what may prompt S and P to make lots of new tech addition in the near term so that the 500 will retain its benchmark status.

Just have a feeling that there is the possibility we could be on the verge of a major overhaul of the S and P 500. Otherwise, we could see the Nasdaq 100 continue to gain more acceptance as new benchmark.

These are just some thoughts I have on the subject. I am going to stay away from the subject until I see their next addition.
