Because their value was linked to a "real" valuation of their parent, they had to accept a dose of reality, that most of these stocks don't face untill much later along.

Hey, I'm not supporting PALM. I'm just pointing out why I dont think it's failure is necessarily a sign of the tech bubble bursting. After all, even with the well-documented "failure" - as was just pointed out it's got a ridiculously high market cap anyway.
