AXCESS Awarded Strategic Patent in Automatic Identification Technology Active RFID Patent Facilitates Asset and Personnel Management Systems DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 2000--AXCESS Inc. (Nasdaq:AXSI - news) announced today that it has been awarded a strategic patent for its automatic identification (RFID) tagging technology.
The patent covers the process of simultaneously reading multiple tags in designated control zones, thereby avoiding collisions while reading asset and personnel tags within the enterprise. The system is sold under the name ActiveTag(TM). This brings the total number of patents the company holds to twelve.
One of the key benefits of RFID tagging for both personnel time and attendance, and asset management applications is the hands-free capability to read tags non-invasively as they pass through wake-up fields or control points. The most important control points are building access and egress doors but can also be expanded to cover office doors, hallways and other critical traffic areas in a facility. Other tagging technologies, such as proximity tags, require the user to present one tag at a time to the reader, making asset management unrealistic. The AXCESS ActiveTag(TM) system is able to simultaneously read multiple tags as both people and assets enter and exit the building enabling easy data collection and providing great cost and time savings.
``This patent covers a process that is strategic to implementing an RFID system for these applications. Other collision avoidance systems require overhead, impacting performance and cost. Our approach supports the need to read multiple tags simultaneously in a low cost fashion. This innovation furthers our strategy of having a single tagging system support all personnel, asset, and vehicle tracking and monitoring applications,' stated Allan Griebenow, president and ceo of AXCESS Inc.
ActiveTag(TM) is a low cost, automatic identification system for the enterprise which uses small, battery powered tags which, when activated at control points, transmit a wireless signal to receivers networked on the existing corporate LAN. The system supports personnel and vehicle access control, personnel time and attendance, and asset management applications.
