3Com investments are up substantially; JNPR trading at $43 billion and AETH trading at $7.3 billion. That is approx. $3 billion for 3Com plus the proceeds from the Palm IPO. Now add that to another $3 billion in cash and receivables. 3Com's patents as of today are at 247 while Cisco's continues to lag at 213. The R&D department at 3Com appears to be doing wonders in the Emerging Market area and this can be manifested in their patents and growth in the Emerging markets.
