India IDBI Report: Loans By Institutions Up 17.9% In FY99

BOMBAY (Dow Jones)--Indian financial institutions sanctioned loans of 910.43 billion rupees ($1=INR43.57) in the fiscal year ending March 1999, up 17.9% from the previous year, development bank Industrial Development Bank of India (P.IDB) said in its report Tuesday.

Disbursements during the same period were much lower at INR578.41 billion, up 7.1% from the previous year, the report said.

Loan sanctions for the infrastructure sector was the largest at 28.9% , the report said.

Private sector claimed bulk of the sanctions at 77.3% followed by public sector at 19.6%, joint sector at 2.7% and cooperative sector at 0.4%, the report said.

During the nine month period of April-December, financial institutions sanctioned and disbursed INR720.25 billion and INR426.86 billion, up 15.6% and 17.2% respectively from the same period in the previous year, the report said.
