William, even though the Europeans are biased in favor of GSM, at some point the superior performance of CDMA, particularly in broad band, data communication applications, wins out. In order to keep using GSM, the Europeans will pay a price, while the CDMA world will enrich itself. This is one instance where competition, even when restricted, eventually prevails because the relationship between CDMA cost and performance, compared with GSM works in favor of CDMA. As long as the Europeans continue to adopt WCDMA as their version of third generation, QUALCOMM still benefits, though Q would probably benefit even more if the Europeans came to their senses and adopted CDMA2000.
