She.... This news camd out after the closing bell tonite. Welcome aboard! El PC shipments forecasted to rise 20 percent in Q1

NEW YORK, March 7 (Reuters) - Personal computer unit shipments
are expected to grow by 20 percent in the first quarter of 2000,
compared to the same period of 1999, market research firm
International Data Corp said on Tuesday.

First-quarter PC sales in the Asia/Pacific region and Japan should be 32 percent above year-ago levels.
In the United states, first-quarter growth should reach 20 percent as the supply of chips and memory
increases. IDC said in a report that Western Europe's growth was forecast at 10.9 percent.

``With Y2K fears largely over and the introduction of Microsoft's Windows 2000, businesses will start
picking up the pace of upgrades,' said John Brown, research director of IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC
Tracker. ``IDC expects the commercial market to show more robust growth this year than last, starting
with a pickup in demand this quarter.'

Shipments in the first quarter of the year, a traditionally slow period, should be down 9 percent from the
last quarter of 1999, IDC said.

In the fourth quarter of 1999, Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) was the world's largest PC
vendor, the report said. Dell Computer Corp. (NasdaqNM:DELL - news) was second, International
Business Machines (NYSE:IBM - news) third, and Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) fourth.

The annual rankings were the same as the quarterly ones, the report said.
