3COM is way oversold look at the 3 month chart high on 82 and low at 24. 3COM is a great company with excellant products and are the market leaders in ethernet products. Their market contiunes to grow rapidly and 3COM is taking market share from their number one competetor INTEL. In addition, 3COm is purchasing US Robotics which will only add to their product line, profits and revenue streams. 3COMs recent downturn was primaryly due to price reductions by Intel on their 10/100 NICs and their statement that Intel was to incorporate ethernet chips onto mother boards. Some of the analyst took this very negative for 3COM, however, they do not understand that putting the chips on the systems boards is not new and Intel tried that in the past and no one wanted it. Reason being that #1 when that chip goes bad you have to replace the whole system board. #2 lots of PC manufactures do not buy into that becouse they like to choose what ethernet cards they use to help differentiate their products from everyone else. Compaq makes their own ethernet cards, IBM uses 3COM and DELL uses Soup De jur. Intel is a formable competetor however most analyst do not see any threat what so ever from Intel. Last summer I puchased 3COM at 38 and one month later sold at 57 it later went to 80. Smith Barney has it at 56 this year and 114 in three years. I dought I will stay in that long I'm usually FIFO (First in First Out)
