Does it bother you to see candidates making deals with race hucksters like Jesse Jackson and hatemongers like Al
Sharpton? Just curious to see if your concerns are evenly applied.

Actually, yes; though this thread, as I said to Michael, doesn't seem the place to discuss those concerns. I have certainly never said I support any of Bush's opponents.

It is interesting to note, though, that Clinton once took to the stump in front of a Jesse Jackson audience and called out a black rapper for being a hatemongering racist. He didn't do it out of integrity (he has none), he did it because it was a smart political move: whatever heat he took from black extremists was more than balanced by the positive impression he made on moderates.

Bush was presented with a similar opportunity at Bob Jones U., and failed to take it. Again, the issue is not one of integrity (I'm not convinced that he has much more than Clinton). But he was presented with an opportunity and lacked either the wit to see it or the balls to take it, and that doesn't say much for the man.

It is amusing to note that the leaders of Bob Jones U., who have held for all the years of the school's existence that interracial dating or marriage are contrary to God's plan, suddenly changed their minds (well, in a loose sort of way I suppose you could call them minds) and policy a few days ago. One wonders about the rationale: did they suddenly realize that they had read the plan wrong, did God suddenly change the plan, or was - heaven forbid - expedience involved? Ol' Bob must be turning in his grave.

I think the country is strong enough to survive any of these guys, but it's depressing that we can't do better.
