Business News From The Japanese Press Wednesday
This summary excludes items from the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, as those items appear regularly on Dow Jones Newswires.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. (J.TER or 9501), or Tepco, has decided to withdraw its 31% stake in Speednet Inc., the Internet access venture with Softbank Corp. (J.SFT or 9984) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), the Yomiuri Shimbun reported. The decision could lead to curtailment of business plans or dissolution of the joint company, the report said.

Speednet, set up in September 1999, was to start services this summer, using Tepco's optical-fiber lines.

Daiwa Bank Ltd. (J.DWB or 8319) will take part in the new bank supermarket operator Ito-Yokado Co. (IYCOY or 8264), which will set up services dedicated to customer account settlements at group outlets, the Mainichi Shimbun reported.
