Problem with all interactive TV OS's so far is that it does not control the VCR and use it as a drive.
The problem you allude to is being addressed by a number of solutions...read on.
I read on and did not see a system that 1. retrieved video segments from tape and/or reads and writes digital data from tape. The DVR's 8 to 16 gigs of storage is woefully inadequate. 1,600 gigs is needed for video on demand from the shelf.
