Sounds a little like supply and demand are getting a little out of whack. I'm really surprised to read that they are having a hard time raising prices - especially for the top of the line wafers.

I find some of the other discussion contradictory. For instance, the whole move to 300mm. First they say they need to spend money to build out production lines -- money they don't have at current price levels -- then they say they spent lots of money already in 96/97! Maybe only a few of the 8/9 companies involved invested in 300mm production capacity, and now they all need it??

I would also think that some money might be available from lenders. Without looking at the existing debt levels however, this might not be a viable solution for everyone. Somebody has to see the demand building everywhere and get these guys some capital.
