SYDNEY (Dow Jones)--Taiwan's China Development Industrial Bank Inc. (Q.CDE, news, msgs), Swiss
banking group UBS AG (Z.UBS, news, msgs), Shamrock Investments LLC of the U.S., Compaq
Computer Corp. (CPQ, news, msgs) and C. H. Warnam International have together invested A$61
million in an Australian venture capital fund, Newport Capital Group Pty. Ltd. Newport plans to raise
another A$14 million by June 30 and will invest in Australian telecommunications and Internet
companies.
Pioneer International Ltd. (A.PIL, news, msgs) said shareholders of UK-based Hanson PLC (HAN,
news, msgs) have voted in favor of Hanson's A$4 billion takeover offer for the Australian building
materials concern.
