I believe the Speednet deal requires some sort of wireless link for the last 100 to 1000 meters.

Cisco has the microwave technology that allows circumvention of multipath distortion (signal bouncing off lots of buildings, ending up as garbled message on your PC) caused by city buildings, and allows broadband speed (6 mbps) between T1 (1.544 mbps), cable (1.5 mbps), DSL (1.5 mbps) and T3 (43 mbps). Cisco Japan will presumably have exclusive distributorship of the technology in Japan. Who is Tepco going to play with if they do not play with Softbank ... key infrastructure components, content, market listing exit ... Tepco's fibre lines does not amount to as much without the special sauce from Son's sushi kitchen.
