Alta Vista after-shocks continued today in the UK. It continues to feature on all the media. The Prime Minister picked up on it and said he wants everyone in the UK to have access to the internet in 5 years (it is 4 in 5 now).

In response to Alta Vista another company today announced free telephone connections and not even a signing-on fee. Alta Vista is credited with opening the floodgates and we can expect to see it mentioned everytime another company steps forward to announce free telephone access. The shares of BT and AOL were down today in reaction to the AV announcement.

I like the way the Brits refer to AV as "Alta Veeeesta - an American or Californian company backed by COMPAQ".
