advalorem, it is a joke to see that everyone assumes that it is almost impossible to emulate Cisco. I will grant you the fact that Cisco is a well managed company, but to attribute a Godly reverence toward any company is a foible in your thinking. The truth is that Cisco lags 3Com in patent registration, what makes this more interesting is that 3Com's R&D budget is only a fraction of Cisco's. In time, Lucent, Nortel and the likes of Juniper will begin trespassing in Cisco's domain, pressuring their net margins, hence, raising a very big question mark on its outlandish valuation.

In retrospect we all have 20/20 hindsight and I would wager against anyone on this thread that none of us in 1996 would have envisaged the exponential growth in internet infrastructure. Those that were able to reap the benefits of being on the right coordinates were well rewarded; Cisco was one such company.

I compare Cisco and 3Com from a valuation perspective and it is here that 3Com trounces Cisco!!!!!!!!!
