You missed something . . . as did everyone else . . .

Richard was very forceful in stating that GSM would fade and CDMA will prosper. He likened it to a family car . . . you can put new tires on it, paint it, but eventually it becomes inefficient - your new purchase will be CDMA. The old car can not be turned into a new one . . .

They (Irwin & Richard) were very adamant that EDGE et al . . . would merely bandage GSM and that ALL of the folks interested in 3G were planning on CDMA . . . so much for a "transition". Seriously, Richard chuckled both times the whole "transition" thing came up. CDMA will be "it" and we can expect well in excess of 100% penetration (the > 100% would come from non-human network nodes).
