US ROBOTICS COUNTER-SUES MOTOROLA

US Robotics Corp (USR) has filed its answer and counterclaims in the
pending lawsuit brought against it by Motorola, Inc. in the US District Court in Boston in February 1997 (issue 263).

In the answer, USR seeks a judgement that Motorola committed patent
misuse (rending Motorola's patents unenforceable) and violated the
antitrust laws by abusing the international standards-setting process.

Among other things, USR is requesting that the Court find the
asserted patents non-infringed, invalid and unenforceable and hopes it
will award damages to USR. It has also counter claimed that Motorola is infringing its own patents.
