Spy--you're right, AMTD's admission that they're for sale is, in effect, waving the white flag. E*Trade won, the other OLBs can keep up with the inexorable, irresistable advance that we're making into their territory. The key is the cost of account acquisition, and ours is the lowest in the business--all we need to do is play out the string and we've busted our competitors in the end (or close).

And you're also right about stock-trading being the killer app for wireless phones. I don't think there are too many idiots out there who are going to buy these things for the wonderful opportunity to get their internet horoscope on their phone (at least I hope not).

And I'm glad that this thread seems to be returning to E*Trade, not getting into ridiculous political debates (with wildly inaccurate definitions of liberalism)...
