MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 2000--Com21, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMTO), a leading global supplier of system solutions for the broadband access market, continues to capture market share in the Asia-Pacific region, answering Japan's growing demand for high-speed Internet access.
Commercial Multiple System Operators (MSO) deployments of Com21's ATM-based ComUNITY Access(R) System reach nearly 2.4 million households in Japan alone with 23 commercial operations which demonstrates an increase in Internet access services and cable subscribers in Japan.
The Strategis Group reports the market for cable modem technology will grow to 2.5 million residential subscribers by 2003 in the Asia-Pacific region. "The growth in broadband services in Japan and other Asia-Pacific countries continues to exceed our forecasts and Com21 is taking advantage of this exceptional growth," states Analyst Neil Rochlani of The Strategis Group.
Patti Reali, senior analyst with GartnerGroup's Dataquest concurs, "The market for competitively priced Internet access connections in Japan is gaining momentum as the economy starts to recover and becomes more robust.
