It's true, we do become involved in each other's lives. We offer comfort and advice and congratulations; we sometimes meet in person or talk on the telephone. We form very real relationships that can be extraordinarily meaningful.

When my uncle was ill and when he died, the support of online friends--both in public and in private--was so helpful and meant so much to me.
