Mike - remember that Schwann cells are the myelin generating cells of the peripheral nervous system (oligodendrocytes generate myelin in the CNS). Yes Schwann cells produce growth factors such as NGF etc. which provide the tropic (guidance) and trophic ('food') support for regrowing peripheral neurites. However, this function is inextricably linked to their ability to remyelinate these ingrowing axons.

So no, I really didn't miss the story at all. In fact, the peripheral effects of GGF2 is a compelling part of why I believe CNSI looks very attractive.
