Those would be Red LEDs, right? I don't think Cree makes Red LEDs.

By no means does Cree have a stranglehold on the LED business. They do not even have a stranglehold on Blue LEDs, since alternatives are available. What Cree has is a price advantage in making a commodity item. (Before anyone jumps all over me on this, "commodity" means you can easily substitute a competitor's product.)

Also, remember that for many applications, a Blue LED is simply a novelty or styling -- where other colors can be used just as well. For example, you probably wouldn't care if the Power On LED on your stereo is red, blue, or green. Blue (or violet) is needed to make white light, and it is needed as one component in a full-color display.
