I think it is reasonable to worry about rates of assimilation and conditions of entry, and to expect to control one's borders. However, I would prefer greater latitude for the entrance of guest workers, especially from Mexico and Central America, although that would require altering the law that makes birth on American soil automatic citizenship. I do not consider America, which has historically been very generous with immigrants, to be in throes of anti- immigrant hysteria. However, there are some states, such as California and New York, that bear the brunt of social tension occasioned by massive entry. California is the primary destination of Hispanic illegals, and New York City is the primary destination of Asian illegals........
