The idea is really that it is not just a fat pipe to the desktop, combined with an outsourced IT guy to help you when you forget your password. The idea is to offer VPNs, streaming content, WAN/LAN services, etc. as well. That is where I believe these companies should make their mark over the next few quarters. Remember that Qwest and others are moving fiber out from the backbone, so the fiber up the riser guys must act fast. Fixed wireless (perhaps with a wireless LAN???) could also be a viable alternative soon, as well. JMHO, though.
