John, I have no bias about Rambus, unless it's in the technology risk. I'm an old memory system design guy, also a very high frequency freak, so I'm not just popping off. It's just that a lot of the technology aspects have looked shaky from the start, not the least of which is the 800 Mbit/sec. per line data rate on a PCB. Confining those frequencies to the inside of a chip (like the 1 GHz in a PIII) is OK, but running it on an external board? Why go to such a risky length as that for a function as (relatively) mundane as main memory. The benchmarks sure don't indicate it's worth the extremes they're going to.

Also, the patent lawsuit on SDRAM, really a longshot, could be huge.

Sueing re SDRAM? Whatever for?

Tony
