Darrell,
Hi!!
RE: is it possible, with Dell's model, that they will be able to capture close to 50% market share?
when other models don't execute, the one left standing is Dell. i realize these ideas have been hacked to death on this thread; but clearly, the possibility remains that Dell could capture close to 50% even while prices remain stable. stable pricing would result from two areas (a) lack of competition for key components, and (b) "planned" shortages of key components.

Review Dell's market presence in the United Kingdom for an example.

Why not? Certainly the direct model has proven so valuable to DELL that articles are being written that proclaim this success as something being in the past...Like this isn't anything new...or as if it is old and won't be AS successful...What annoys me is I haven't read a thing yet that proves anyone can beat it...If we take some of the numbers that Michael has told us (PC's in the world by ___) and look at the global expansion one has to step back in awe...Your comment about the United Kingdom is one that caught my attention early...Their adoption to Direct and increase in market share is one that makes you drool over what DELL can have in say 3,4 or 5 years in some of the other countries...For me the China announcement of August 98 was NOT that long ago...I will continue to follow this growth in 2000 with great anticipation...Legend is a formidable competitor...But, I have bet a great amount on being direct...It hasn't lost anywhere I know of and I don't believe it will...
Yes..50% in five years...That's what I anticipate..The others are struggling...May out source...

Best, Kemble
