A lot of the answer to your question is contained in previous posts (mine and others').. but simply put, most folks think of Priceline.com as just another net company that sells cheap airline tickets (among a few other things).
If that were the case, then I'd be freaked out at the $12 bil valuation.
Priceline.com's strength is in its business model (see previous posts) and it's wide ranging applicability.
The fact that they've managed to build a top 5 Internet brand name is priceless, too. If they continue to successfully defend their intellectual property in court and continue to apply their model to a (practically limitless) variety of sectors, industries, and products then their phenomenal, Internet age growth rates will be sustained for a long time. On top of that, as the company matures and comes to an even more prominent role in the cyber economy, we ought to see more and more ala AOL deals.
(AOL's valuation stands at $125 bil).
Many "ifs", but that's (partially) what investing is all about. With a line up of such capable and connected management I like Priceline.com's chances of success.
