Look at "our" government at any time in our history. It has always been a messy business. ALL governments are, IMO, nasty, we just happen to have the least nasty one (Yeah, I know, not original, so sue me.) And I am not so sure Jefferson would have agreed with you and he probably would consider you ignorant. He probably would consider all of us to be ignorant, except maybe JF.
