When you go to uninstall ie5 there is an option to "repair internet explorer". Have you tried that?

I agree, it's a real twist of the knife not to be able to uninstall ie5. But then, if you could, Microsoft wouldn't be able to use the "integration" argument for bundling ie and windows.
