I don't agree with 7-1/2 = not a minor player. It has a lot to do with the jurisdiction, the judge, the color of your skin, and the political ambitions of the prosecutor (among others). It is just that simple of an equation.
Also, I have encountered too many people who made of success out of themselves without a lot of up-front cash to do things. It's possible his family helped. He may have convinced a "angel" to put some $$ for the first stage of a deal. And there are a lot of people with assets who don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain, but do know enough to pitch in with someone who does, especially if it makes their life easier (or they can get out from under something unpleasant).
I will not lean toward GIFS or toward the TN government. The timing, events, etc are just too convenient to be coincidence. I've dealt with good ol' boys in several states, and I've learned not to trust a single one of them. Our Vice President may be from TN, but that does little to convince me Bureaucrat Elrod, the insurance commissioner, Attorney Generals, Conservators or any number of other parties give a rat's ass about me and my investment. With very few exceptions, these kind of leeches are interested only in how much power, petty or real, they can accumulate and exercise.
Now, ask me what I really think?
