The settlement from MSFT is no rumor. Inprise/Borland received a $100 million to settle patent disputes and MSFT turned around and bought a 10% stake in the company for $25 million. Currently, INPR has about $250 million in cash and equivalents, minus whatever the TurboLinux investment was.

As for a white knight, don't hold your breath. Inprise was trading for $3 and change in October, had a pile of cash and assets and there were no takers. Now that we're worth 0.747 of Corel, who's going to want to touch that?

With the information I know now, I'm voting no on this deal. I don't see what is accomplished with this merger that couldn't be accomplished with a partnership. The idea of merging with a shrink-wrap software vendor who's grand new product is free, just doesn't float my boat.
