in the past 10 days, i have been invited to join the staff of 2 newsletters...it must have been that quote on cbs marketwatch.
i finally responded to them this morning...with this letter.

i am honored by and thank you for the offer.
i respectfully decline for the following reasons.

in this current investment world, the individual is fighting the mm's, the big houses, the fed, the mutual fund pro's, and the hedge funds.

it is impossible for the small investor, working to support a family, to devote the necessary time and effort to adequately research an individual stock...much less a portfolio. the only hope is to get help. that help is available free on the message boards.

by pooling information resources and research efforts, small groups can dissect a company, evaluating its potential. armed with this knowledge, the individual can now assess news and events and respond quickly to opportunities. this is the edge that we as small investors have. our competition needs a committee meeting to get a decision. we control our own destiny individually. with sufficient background on a company, one can easily and quickly discern the potential impact of news and quarterly statements and move accordingly and swiftly.

the G&K thread does a magnificent job of evaluating companies for gorilla and king characteristics. the finalists have proven to be fabulous long-term buy and holds. exactly what a working guy or active retiree needs. all of the research provided on this and other threads is free.

i have personally benefited greatly from the free information provided by others. i share my research freely as well. if all of us, individually, join newsletter staffs, we will defeat the purpose of group research.

sincerely,
unclewest
