ZMBA NextNet Plug-and-Play MMDS Customer Premise Equipment Provides Potential to Catalyze Broadband Wireless Industry
CEO Discusses Product Advancements at Broadband Wireless World Forum 2000
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 2000-- NextNet, a spin-off of Zamba, Inc. (Nasdaq:ZMBA - news), announced today that CEO Ralph Muse will discuss recent advancements in MMDS (Multichannel Multipoint Distribution System) Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) at the 2nd Annual Broadband Wireless World Forum, held March 14-15, in San Francisco, CA. Muse, a 25-year data communications veteran, will speak on development of the industry's first completely customer-installable, plug-and-play device for high-speed Internet access. NextNet's unique CPE architecture combines the functions of a data transceiver, modem and antenna into a single, compact unit that could be distributed through consumer electronics stores, to residential and small business subscribers, as early as next year.

``Wireless needs a very cost-effective solution to compete with other broadband access technologies (cable and xDSL),' stated Muse. ``Further, the market needs a solution that supports high-subscriber density, and mass market penetration via new distribution models. NextNet's Expedience(TM) product addresses all of these needs with its unique product architecture, and the industry's first user-installable CPE,' Muse added.

NextNet's customer-installable CPE is a component of the company's Expedience(TM) standards-based, end-to-end broadband wireless access system for MMDS frequencies. The system combines cellularized/sectorized technology for maximum subscriber density, with OFDM radio transmission reliability, and TDD (Time Division Duplex) spectral efficiency. Expedience(TM) is designed to support the emerging market for two-way, high-speed transmission of data, voice and video. A typical installation will provide data transmission rates of 54 Mbps per cell. The system's scalability allows this amount to be increased or decreased, as user-demands require. Expedience(TM) system demos are scheduled for the second quarter of 2000, with product becoming available in limited quantities in the fourth quarter.
