Now here's a breakthrough.

According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, Ameritech, which covers a five-state network, including Michigan, is converting its digital cellphone system from CDMA to TDMA. The TDMA system is the one used by Ameritech's owner, SBC Communications, which covers most of the rest of the U.S. The reason given for the switch is that TDMA is more compatible with GSM, which will allow their customers to do global roaming. Customers will be given free new phones.
