....Bill Kristol has sympathetically painted a scenario in which Ross Perot drafts McCain to run on the Reform Party ticket, thanks no doubt partly to their shared passion for campaign-finance reform (an idea that the Weekly Standard used to denounce editorially in the harshest terms as an abridgement of the First Amendment, before its editor swooned over John McCain). This is at least plausible, but why conservatives should have any interest in promoting such a scenario remains a mystery.

Kristol and his fellow McCain partisan David Brooks now justify their support for McCain on grounds that he's the candidate of "creative destruction." The destruction apparently comes first, while the creation will be filled in later. All the more reason for McCain to abandon the GOP ? after all, it's the quickest path to the greatest possible destruction.

Maybe Kristol should go take a vacation, he obviously needs time to think.
