Good Lord! You guys have lived a "sheltered life" have you? Actually spent one night in Y in your entire life? Run into bizarre characters, have you? Ever spend the night in jail? A flophouse? Sleeping rough? In the Chicago Bus Station? The meanest man I ever knew was a security guard at the bus station in Chicago 35 years ago -- about 5 ft tall with a club -- walked around and bastinadoed (badly dressed) people with his club. Made them show a ticket -- no ticket -- kicked them out into the cold using the bum's rush. I really loved those old Times Square hotels. Half the doors had braces on the inside to keep the weird characters out of your room, and the other half had braces on the outside to keep the weird characters in. When you "registered" if you didn't insist on an inside brace, they put you in an outside brace room. Never could make up my mind, myself.
