MileHigh: this is a fine line G* walks. The SP's do their own thing and they do not usually want someone telling them what to do.

Amen. The trick is you can't force the SP's to drink, but if you don't lead them in a clear path to the watering hole they'll tend to wander off in the wrong direction and your product dies of dehydration.

I (unfortunately) did not realize until yesterday how totally G* has abdicated all marketing responsibilities to the SP's. Sounds like BS is the part-time account exec from G* to the SP's. (And I'm kicking myself for buying and not ever listening to any old BS CC's just to get a flavor of how the joint operates).

Not having any plan in place to anticipate Iridium's service cessation was unbelievable to me. BS seemed content to let the SP's try to figure it out themselves.

If these guys can ever figure out how to market their way out of a paper bag, G* could really soar from here. But the mentality seems to be so much a throwback to the old defense contractor days where all you needed was good engineering, good legal, and a few key personal relationships with major accounts. Multi-channel marketing seems to be a whole new world for these guys, and they come across as rather clueless.
