I wonder if Athlon power dissipation had anything to do with the decision.

AMD has already shown that it is willing to develop reference designs such as the EasyNow! PC. I think they should develop their own game console design -- Call it the A-Box. It will sport a 1 GHz Spitfire processor, and include graphics from either GigaPixel or ATI and their new Charisma Engine. It will run Linux and use OpenGL.
