The Wall Street Journal Ranks Rational as the Company
Wall Street Analysts Liked Best 45 of USA Today's E-
Business 50 Companies Use Rational Software's
E-Development Solution

LEXINGTON, Mass., March 6 -- Rational Software, the
e-development company, today announced that The Wall
Street Journal recently ranked Rational Software as
the number one company in a survey of ``Companies Wall
Street Analysts Liked Best.' In addition, a recent
update to USA TODAY's e-Business 50 index shows that
45 of the 50 companies listed use Rational's products
to build Internet-related software.

The Wall Street Journal's ``Companies Wall Street Analysts
Liked Best' ranking, included in the February 24, 2000
issue of the publication, is a listing of the 147
companies that received the strongest recommendations
from Wall Street analysts across all industry segments.
Of the 147 companies listed, Rational Software was ranked
as the top company, according to data compiled by I/B/E/S
International Inc.

45 of the 50 companies listed in the USA TODAY e-Business
50 use Rational's e-development solution. The USA TODAY
e-Business 50 index ``reflects the stock market fortunes
of 50 U.S. companies that derive at least 50% of their
revenue from the Internet.' A sub-index of the USA TODAY
Internet 100, the e-Business 50 ``helps investors track
the ups and downs of the fastest-growing segment of the
U.S. economy.' Also, Rational recently announced that 47
of 50 companies listed in Fortune magazine's inaugural
e-50 index, a profile of leading Internet-related companies,
use Rational's e-development solution to build Internet
-related software.

``Rational's selection by The Wall Street Journal as the
top company 'Wall Street analysts liked best' is a
reflection of the way we help customers satisfy the
insatiable demand for software that has been created by
the explosive growth in the Internet,' said Eric Schurr,
senior vice president of marketing and Windows Suite
products for Rational Software. ``Rational helps companies
building software for the Internet overcome the 'e-software
paradox' -- the need to deliver software very quickly but
with increasingly high quality. Rational is clearly one
of the leaders in the Internet infrastructure market.'

Rational's e-development solution is a one-stop integration
of industry-leading unified tools, services, and software
engineering best practices. It helps organizations
successfully deliver software for the Internet in three
major market areas: e-business, e-infrastructure, and
e-devices. Rational's flagship products are the Rational
Suite family -- including Rational Rose and the Rational
Unified Process -- and Rational ClearCase. Together, these
integrated products form a comprehensive platform for
e-development that speeds software delivery, increases
quality and reduces risk.
