Douglas,

Is there such a thing as a Gorilla pro tempore when a company's value chain is facing future obsolescence arising from the advent of a disruptive technology

My take:

1) Gorilla Gaming is long-term.
2) An investor aware of a discontinuous innovation expected to unseat a Gorilla in three years (meaning over the short term) would not invest in that Gorilla.

In other words, it doesn't matter that a Gorilla is pounding his chest today. What matters is how long it can continue going thumpety thump. When you see the graphs depicting the scenario at the point in time that the competitive advantage period comes to an end (which is what happens when a discontinuous innovation becomes the new standard), you realize how nasty it can get.
