If SJ's intention truly was to just go to her apartment, because she was tired after the Pizza Party, then it would have made more sense for her to park the car and return the keys FIRST before going back to her apartment.

Normally, yes, but as it happened her apartment was on a direct route from the parking lot to Phelps Gate, so stopping off didn't involve going out of her way. As we speculated earlier, she may have needed to use the bathroom. Banal, but plausible.

It's been suggested that while she was at home she received a phone call from someone suggesting an urgent meeting. But here's another thought, which I don't believe has been considered: she may have stopped at her apartment because she wanted to make a call.

Or perhaps she was expecting a communication of some kind. While I'd see nothing unusual in her stopping off at home to take a pee, I do think it's a bit odd that once there she took the trouble to boot her computer and check her email. Hey, I'm an internet junkie, but even I wouldn't do that unless I hoped to find something in particular. Evidently Suzanne didn't have any important mail. So did she then make a call?

Of course it's also possible that she turned on the computer simply because she felt guilty about not having replied to the friend who wanted to borrow the books. But at that point what difference would another half an hour make?

What if, frustrated because she hadn't heard from the person she expected to hear from, she called him and arranged a meeting?
