A few somewhat contrarian points about x-box, probably repeated, maybe not worth repeating, but it's a noisy thread.

1. Fall 2001 is a long time away.

2. The OS is apparently some "consumer NT" variant. Microsoft has been confused on that particular issue for a long time. Microsoft does not exactly have a strong track record for delivering its operating systems on schedule.

3. Jeez, AMD would have had to start stockpiling 600mhz now, because the way things are going, they are sure going to be hard to find a year and a half from now.

4. In retrospect anyway, for a low cost, fixed configuration thing, Intel makes more sense. Intel has been hard at work at integration strategies for PC components, and has the engineering depth to provide a custom chipset variant that fits the specs. Yes, the x-box as currently specified doesn't fit the Intel roadmap, but they're big enough to shift the pieces around and come up with a variant that does.

But the most important point, again, is that fall 2001 is a long time away, and considering that this is Microsoft, well, there's a certain credibility issue there too. Not that it matters much for the stock markets, what's RMBS at today anyway? 425 just now, cool, it's magic!

Cheers, Dan.
