Good to hear that we agree about servers. Now, servers comprise bulk of computing (behind the scene, of course, and hence invisible to the public) and contribute to bulk of computing-related productivity gains. So, I think that focusing on individual desktops to measure productivity gains from advances in computing is a major folly, which the general public happily indulge in.
