i have attached a summary of recent value line recommendations. number 1-100 are the regular service buys, 101-200 regular service sells, 201-300 expanded service buys and 301-400 expanded service sells. this will give you a flavor of the stocks they recommend and you can decide if these are the kind of stocks you would buy calls or puts on. my neighborhood library subscribes to both services so i read them there. otherwise, i would subscribe to both services. value line publishes it's results every six months and they are excellent. for more information see the value line web site.

another place to get leads is the standard and poor outlook. it also uses a rating system of 1 to 5 with 5 being buys and 1 & 2 sells. available in most libraries or by subscription or through an account with etrade or waterhouse.
i have also used the investor business daily, buying calls on "stocks in the news" and puts on stocks with falling relative strength which are listed daily.
zack's is also good.
i've been successful with all of the above.
i find buying options much less stressful than selling them.
the key is that i only bet an amount on each play that i can afford to lose (one tenth of one per cent of the value of my account). by betting small, i don't get nervous if a stock goes against me and sell at the bottom. when you sell options (puts or calls), you cannot control your loss.
i take no position on general market direction and have made good money on my put purchases as well as the calls.
